Alderney Nature Diaries; a monthly record throughout a year.

Click here to obtain a map of Alderney, which will help those not familiar with the island to pin point places mentioned in my monthly Nature Diaries. The small figures along margins of the map are grid references. The large figures 1-14 on the map squares refer to the botanical divisions referred to in my 1988 Flora of Alderney and the update available on this site.

NOTE: The Diaries cover all 12 months, but have been selected from years between 1999 and 2004. Over several years there has been very little significant change between the reports for the same month in each year. The end of the year report, natdi13.htm, will in future also contain any new plant records and the month and year's average weather figures for any later year which has just finished.

Many visitors come to the island especially to see some of the rarest plants, but all visitors are reminded that they should not pick or uproot any wildflower, particularly the less common species. Island naturalists are always willing to help interested visitors. They may usually be contacted through the Alderney Museum or the Wildlife Trust. There are links to both their websites on the home page. A number of books on the island wildlife, Birds, Mammals, Plants etc. are available from the Museum, The Alderney Wildlife Trust Office, The Alderney Bookshop, the two Newsagents, The Giftbox and the Airport Shop.
